When the battle begins, you will see a dialog with a small map showing you where in the world this battle is taking place. On this dialog you can choose to deploy units yourself or delegate the job to the computer. If you deploy your own forces, green dots displayed on the battlefield show where you can place them.
Click on a green dot to deploy a regiment to that location.
The deployment area is always outside the range of the enemy units.
